Why Use Interlibrary Loan?

Libraries share books and articles from their collections via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Because libraries coordinate collection development (i.e. do not buy titles if others locally or in their consortium have them),  sometimes ILL is the only way to get the resources you need for your research.

Interlibrary loan is a free service for current Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff.   Please use the above link to create an ILLiad account; then use ILL to get the scholarly resources your research requires!

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the software Interlibrary Loan uses to process ILL requests.  You need to create an ILLiad account to request items via interlibrary loan.

ILLiad is hosted by OCLC, a non-profit library cooperative which also offers searches multiple library catalogs at once and links directly to ILLiad. is the preferred method for requesting books and media via interlibrary loan.

For journal articles and other periodical literature, find the "Submit Interlibrary Loan Request" option after clicking the "Can I get this item online?" link in the library periodical databases.  Here is an example.
